NEW YORK, June 13, 2006 – The Advertising Council, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the Adoption Exchange Association and the Collaboration to AdoptUsKids announced today the launch of a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) designed to encourage the adoption of older children and teens currently in the foster care system.
According to the Administration for Children and Families, approximately 300,000 children in the United States enter the foster care system each year. While about 60% of these children will return to their parents, the other 40% will remain in the system. Currently there are 518,000 children in the foster care system in the United States. Of these, 118,000 are ready for adoption. Each year, approximately 19,000 of these children “age out” of the system without ever having been placed with permanent, loving families.
The majority of children in foster care tend to be minorities, with older African American boys waiting the longest for adoption. Approximately 49% of waiting children are ages 9 or older. In general, older children and teens have longer stays in foster care, placing them at higher risk for drug use, poor school performance, or jail time.
“You don’t have to be perfect to be a perfect parent. There are thousands of teens in foster care who would love to put up with you.”

Pulse-Radio Announces
Hooray, we are up-to-date!
Our schedule for show times and DJ profiles are as current as we can get them for the moment. As our listeners may have noticed, we have suffered through a number of changes over the last weeks, but we are still holding together and keeping our listeners happy — and that makes us happy. Please be aware, though: the shows we have listed are our regularly scheduled shows. These are time slots where we make a commitment to you to have a live DJ to keep you company and take your requests. Since our time slots are not full, you never know when your favorite DJ may be on the air, as we are all "taking up the slack." And any of us can pop on "live" and say "Boo!" at any moment!
Our dear co-owner Irish is safely ensconced back in her native land, after a lengthy and pleasant visit to the U.S., and counterpart Boatman is chugging up and down the Mama of All Rivers, keeping barges out of trouble and trying to keep us out of trouble remotely.
Summer has ended with hardly anyone taking notice. School is old business already to the kids, winter is peeking over the horizon, and the nights are getting longer. That means -; that's right! -; more music! We'll keep your ears warm as the evenings get chillier, and try to keep you good company as you dream about next summer's barbecues.
